AFTER CARE: HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR TATTOO
*The life of your tattoo is dependent upon the care it receives in the next 7 - 14 days.
Absolutely NO: Pools, Hot tubs, Baths, (really any body of water, showers are ok)
Absolutely NO: Sun exposure for 2 weeks, sunscreen, picking, scratching, or rebandaging
The first 72 hours
Keep your tattoo bandages for only an hour or so after leaving the shop. Make sure your hands are washed before you touch your tattoo. Remove the bandage and wash your tattoo with unscented soap and lukewarm water. Lightly pat dry with a paper towel only, and apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor ointment. The layer should be a very very light sheen and in no way look wet. Pat dry excess Aquaphor off tattoo. Do this once in the morning and again before you go to bed for the first 3 days. If you seep excessively or get dirty/sweaty please do this more often.
After the first 72 hours
After the first 72 hour are over your tattoo should start to get tight and dry, this is when you should switch from using Aquaphor to Lubriderm or Eucerin lotion. Dap lightly a thin layer as needed, again your tattoo should never look to shiny or wet. Never pick or itch your scabs, you can lightly tap them with an clean open palm to alleviate itching. After 2-3 weeks you should be safe to tan and swim. Please plan your tattoos accordingly.
